+ The UAG $500 Challenge
+ December 6th, 2011 at 9:05 PM
Dearest Members and Friends of the UAG,
The Upstate Artists Guild needs your help. The Guild is challenging YOU to raise $500 over the next eight months to help keep our gallery space from slipping away.

The Upstate Artists Guild is behind in its rent and other bills. While we are in the process of securing a line of credit with our bank, that will not be enough to keep the gallery going indefinitely. We need to generate a continuous flow of money from as many sources as possible so that our organization can continue to keep a roof over its head. We hope that this new fundraising appeal will provide us with the financial resources to get us back on track and earning funds into the future. We hereby challenge our individual members and community friends to take a pledge with us and contribute $500 over the next eight months.

There are many ways you can do this…. Here are some ideas!
-Sell prints in the gallery with sales going as a donation to the Guild.
Member Adam Furgang found prints from his college days and has been selling them for $5 each at the gallery. In 3 months he has sold 35 prints, raising $175 for the guild!
- Sell merchandise with sales going as a donation to the Guild.
Member Blair Allen made hats that he painted on and sold them in one night!
-Throw a party. Use the UAG Gallery space or your own home/apartment.
Member Bill Petit will be hosting an art party at his home and donating the proceeds to the guild.
-Just donate the money!
Two of our members have accepted the challenge by deciding to just donate the money to the guild. One is paying in $100 increments and the other all in one shot!
-Find us an Angel Member.
Angel members pay a $500 per year membership fee. Maybe you don’t have $500, but you know someone who does. Donations and membership fees are a tax write-off because of our nonprofit status. Your friend will get to donate to a great cause, be on our mailing list, have his or her own page on our website, and will be able to enjoy all membership benefits.

Join us in the pledge to save our gallery space. Take the UAG $500 Challenge today!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Schoonmaker Finnen

President

+ Give the Gift of Art
+ December 6th, 2011 at 9:03 PM
For the past six years, the Upstate Artists Guild has been dedicated to providing both a gallery space for local artists and a community resource for arts-related instruction and idea sharing. In this short time, we have been home to the work of more than 600 artists. We have seen our membership grow to include more than 120 community-focused and amazingly artistic minds, and we have initiated and administered 1st Friday – a monthly arts event pulling in more than 50,000 patrons in five years. We’ve also participated in and hosted multiple city events including monthly poetry, film, and music events. Look who we’ve proudly collaborated with over the years:

Troy Night Out •  Schenectady Art Night • First Night • Winterfest •Art on Lark •Tulip Fest • LarkFest • Champagne in the Park •Winter WonderLARK • Albany Poets •Jawbone Reading Series •UAlbany English Department • St. Rose Reading Series • Albany Sonic Arts Collective • College of Saint Rose Student Art League • The Clearview Center • The Carriage House • The Albany and New York Bicycle Coalitions • The Edwood Film Festival • The Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society •The Upstate Independents • Grand Street Community Arts • the ARC • various local and international bands

None of this would have been possible without the financial support of our members, our artists, and our community. The Upstate Artists Guild is a not-for-profit community arts organization fueled entirely by donated time and money – a collaboration of hard-working and single-minded volunteers. We have become known as a center for arts in Albany and a unifying force among the wealth of Upstate New York’s arts. We now reach out to the community for support to keep us here on Lark Street and ensure continued growth and support for your local arts. Please help however you can by giving a gift to your local art community:

1) Make a tax-deductible donation. Every little bit helps! Use the "Donate" button on our website to donate online via PayPal or by stopping by the gallery for a cash or check donation.

2) Join the UAG. Become an Associate Member ($50/yr), Member ($120/yr), or Angel ($500/yr). You can join online at http://upstateartistsguild.org/info/join.php. If you wish to upgrade your member level please send us an email or give us a call.

3) Purchase artwork from the gallery. A portion of each sale goes to supporting the UAG. Members and Angels receive a 10% discount towards purchases of artwork from the UAG Gallery.

4) Submit your artwork to our shows. Submission fees help pay for the gallery rent and maintenance. You can find our upcoming shows listed online
at http://upstateartistsguild.org/exhibit/upcoming.php.

Thank you,
Upstate Artists Guild
